Creature Features

Growing up, I used to draw this image often in my philosophically bemused teens…   “The Creature.”

It was an emblem of our misdirected attempts to reconstruct the puzzle pieces of “peace.”  The creature’s Left hand reaches out to touch the circle with the Equality sign (E) as teardrops fall from its trapezoidal hexagon head and spiraling eyes, its contorted legs (and tail between them) struggle to hold their ground, and perhaps most neglected of all is the (A) in its Right hand kept tentatively close to the torso, representing both Autonomy and Anarchy also known as the sovereignty principle… or our “rights”… in lieu of UniVersal right versus wrong, aka correct versus incorrect. Cause and effect;  in a way this (A) could also represent Alchemy and the Active (or activist) principle from which passivity is measured by the absence of.

Without establishing this vital brace, this point of connection, the creature cannot stabilize itself on the orbital wheel of fortune, spinning around and around. Equilibrium is not possible without exercising its autonomy, while also respecting (i.e. seeing) the autonomy of others…  Nor is “equality” possible, truly, much less solidarity.

In a way I think it was an attempt to channel kabbalistic understanding before I was initiated into the esoteric, one can even see the double triangle in the creature’s body, as in its choked-up throat, set point to point in opposition between upper and lower. The six points of “connection” in addition to mirroring pieces of pie symbolic of the Algiz-esque ‘peace sign’ with its 360 degrees divided up roughly 120 / 120 / 60 / 60, as opposed to six 60s—and the circumference of a circle also being 2 x “Pi” x R (Pi is the ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diameter)—six is also 2×3 aka 3+3, the even and the odd of balance.  How is that for ballistics?

The trapezoid of the head may fool you into thinking those six points have already been established by the 7th Chakra, but that is only the “crown” out of balance with Ajna.  The (A) is also, much like the triangle represents 3 intersecting lines /-\, point break of the V, \-/, but also the union of 3.  The point, the line, the arc, the arch, the angles, the circle, and ultimately the sphere, aka 3D. The circle, which we also use to represent zero.  Beginning, middle, and end… Past, present, and future.

It is believed that the mystical traditions of our ancestors live on in us even before we’re able to put them into words.  It was also this little Libra’s attempt to depict our counterbalances all out of balance, try as we might to realign them.
